Asons Foundation, the charity arm of Asons Solicitors of Bolton organised an 8km Moonlight Walk fundraiser through Bolton that took place on the evening of Friday 23 September.
Asons Foundation’s objective is to use 70% of the funds raised to build water wells in Asia and Africa, believing that poor regions of the world should not be denied the fundamental right of access to clean drinking water. The remaining 30% will be donated to Bolton Hospice, the town’s charity that provides palliative and specialist care to people with life-limiting illnesses.
The fundraiser was open to the public and was a family friendly event. Up and coming local boxer Osman Aslam, who has won six out of six professional bouts at super bantamweight level, was part of the route which started at David Lloyd leisure club, travels up Chorley New Road, takes in Beaumont Road and returns along Chorley New Road to the fitness centre.
The walkers met at the gym’s DLecious Cafe at 8.00pm with a health and safety briefing at 8.15 before the walk starts at 8.30pm. Free car parking was provided on site by the club.
.Asons Foundation was set up by the law firm to help the homeless, refugees and various Bolton-based charities. The charity is also making regular trips to Manchester city centre with nutritious ready meals for the homeless there.
100% of all funds raised by the foundation go towards charitable causes.
At the beginning of August, boxer Osman, Asons’ CEO Dr Imran Akram and the foundation members visited the E5 children’s unit at Bolton Royal Hospital to give toys to the sick children staying on the ward in that hope that the gifts would make their stay a little easier to get through. The charity plans to make this a regular event after the terrific reception at the hospital and the delighted reaction from the children.
