Football Coaching Sessions Are Organised At Bobby Heywood, Leading To Certificates And Awards

Bolton Wanderers Community B Trust( B W C T ) is an  independ  entregistered charity associated with Bolton Wanderers FC. The Trust provides sporting and educational activities benefiting more than 80,000 children per year, in 150 schools, and providing 5000 hours of community work annually.

Richard Slater is the group’s Community Cohesion Coordinator and has been working at the Trust for two years. He started by working on the Street20 cricket program – a fast moving modified version of six-a-side cricket – designed to be played in crowded urban environments and suitable existing facilities. BWCT took a team from Ghosia to Lords Cricket Ground for a tournament last year, which they won, but unfortunately there is no funding available to continue the project at present.

The Gr8ter Goals project aims to make Bobby Heywood Park in Great Lever a safer place, with activities available for local residents aged 12 to 30. The initiative arose from an incident resulting in the death of an Asian teenager. which sparked a number of apparently racially motivated incidents in the area. This year a special day was held for youngsters as part of the National Hate Crime Awareness Week, including an Awareness Workshop and an invitation to the Bolton v Cardiff City FA Cup match. Football coaching sessions are organised, leading to certificates and awards – and BWCT also delivered a ‘Women, Get Set, Go’ award to female volunteers at Bolton Council of Mosques (BCoM), through the Gr8er Goals project.

The  physical Activity Supplementing Studies (P.A.S.S.) Project is an educational project for 7-11 year old children who may be under achieving against the standardised attainment levels, while the ‘Enterprise Academy’ offers young supporters in the Bolton area the chance to improve the ir enterprise skills by giving them an understanding of Bolton Wanderers as a business rather than just a football club.pic62

Tough Tackling is a follow-on to the successful Men’ s Health project, aided by funding from the Football League Trust and run in partnership with Bolton at Home. The project engages with men aged 18–35 years, with workshops relating to health, employability and current local issues. BWCT has been awarded £10,000 by Heart Research UK to continue health awareness across primary s chools in Bolton – educating individuals on the dangers of leading an unhealthy lifestyle, whilst tailoring the sessions to celebrate the diverse, multicultural society in which we all live.
