A record £32.6 million was raised in this year’s BBC Children in Need appeal, with over £2.5 million of that being raised here in the Northwest. Former Bolton Wanderers star Fabrice Muamba, who survived after his heart stopped during a cup tie at Tottenham Hotspur in 2012, was part of Gareth Malone’s all-star choir, performing the
Children in Need single Wake Me Up. Children in Need currently funds 15 projects in Bolton, primarily aimed at children from disdvantaged backgrounds. Among local recipients of funding this year are the Bolton Toy Library in Ethel Street, Deane; Bolton YMCA in Deansgate and the Great Lever Voice Project, which gives teenagers the chance to gain vocational qualifications and obtain assistance when applying for jobs.The project also offers activities for youngerchildren.
