Christine Partington House stands as an eloquent testimony to the untiring and dedicated efforts of a person who spent most of her life ensuring empowerment for youth in general and girls in particular. Christine Partington set up the Wellfield Project to encourage young people to become active participants in the welfare and development of the community. She motivated them to work towards better outcomes for themselves and their neighbourhood. Christine was a well-loved and respected community figure who dedicated over 20 years of her life to the young people of Rumworth. She worked with many agencies to ensure that the young people, mainly young women of Rumworth, accessed opportunities to forge ahead. Her passion and dedication is seen in the success stories of many. She won many awards, including one for a film highlighting the perils of teenage pregnancy. She encouraged cultural diversity, set up a community garden for the elderly and secured the safety of young working women. Her work on the sexual exploitation of young women led to the police developing specific strategies. Christine died in early 2012 and Bolton at Home, the venue of the Wellfield Project was named after her in her honour.
