Church Bank once led down to the busy community of church Wharf and formed part of the main road to Bury. Construction of St Peter’s Way in the 1960s changed this part of the Croal Valley beyond recognition. Church Bank is now a cul-de-sac for traffic, with the valley bisected by the A666 dual carriageway. Only pedestrians can cross from Church Bank, via a tunnel under the A666.
