Bolton Library and Museum Services are giving visitors the chance to try out five different activities at this year’s Bolton Food and Drink Festival.
From having a selfie with a ‘Mummy’, to sharing lunch with Peter Rabbit, each activity will be family friendly and free of charge.
Throughout the weekend of the festival, from Friday, August 25 to Monday, August 28, the town centre will be packed with stalls, entertainment, and pop-up bars and restaurants.
The festival is organised by Bolton Council in association with Aldi.
As part of the family attractions, Central Library and Museum, in Le Mans Crescent, has organised The Peter Rabbit Experience each day at 11am and 2pm.
Families are invited to Mr McGregor’s garden for storytelling and food tasting with the opportunity to eat exactly what Peter Rabbit would enjoy for his lunch.
Also arranged for each day of the festival (11am) is the chance to delve into Bolton’s Egypt at the Octagon Theatre.
There’ll be a desert and pyramids, and even a selfie photoshoot with our very own Mummy.
Bolton’s Egypt is part of a larger festival event at the Octagon.
A drop-in session delivering sensory stories and crafts will be held each day from 10am to 4pm in the Crompton Place Shopping Centre.
Bolton Library and Museum Services will take over one of the shop units for the duration of the weekend to create an interactive space to stimulate all the senses. Crafts include making a key ring and Mummy spoon.
More craft activities will be held at Central Library and Museum on Saturday, August 26 at 10am and again at 3pm.
For these sessions, visitors can ‘bling up’ their pumps using a unique pair of customised trainers and our Egyptology collection as inspiration.
Participants can design and create a pair of pumps to take home.
Finally, on Friday and Saturday the smoothie bike will be situated in Central Library and Museum. Visitors can hop on and make their own smoothie drink from a variety of fresh fruits.
Bolton Council’s Cabinet Member for Culture, Youth and Sport, Cllr John Byrne, said: “The Food and Drink Festival continues to get bigger and better each year, and the library and museum service’s involvement in the event has also grown.
“These free events offer something a little bit different for families who are either enjoying the full weekend or just popping into town for a couple of hours. However, there really is so much to do that it will be hard to leave, so I hope people make the most of this fabulous opportunity to try new things and have fun.”

For further family fun, there will be a Mad Hatters Tea Party in the Alice in Wonderland Marquee, Howell Croft North.
Tickets are £5 per adult and £2.50 for children for an interactive performance by the Octagon Theatre plus special picnic with goodies from Slattery, Carrs Pasties and Aldi.
