During the weekend of 22nd and 23 April, boltonlive.org hosted a community information event at Johnson Fold UCAN – and also what turned out to be a major litter collection. They were joined by the Johnson Fold Residents Association and the Foxes of the Fold. Local MP Chris Green was also there to offer his support – and a Bolton Council recycling officer was on hand to provide advice.
Groups involved in the actual litter collection included Litter Pickers of North Bolton, local volunteers, Love Bolton, Hate Litter, and McDonalds on Chorley Old Road – who sent five staff volunteers to help. Snacks and refreshments for volunteers were provided by Holland’s, Bolton at Home and the Residents Association. Prizes donated, which could be won by volunteers, included a 2-night stay at the Bolton Whites Hotel.
In all, some 60-70 volunteers became involved in the effort and Bolton Council collected a whopping 100 bags of litter. Huge kudos to all involved in this magnificent effort.
Pete Hopkinson, for Bolton Live, said ‘’Planning and executing this event was an absolute pleasure and the community spirit shown, from not only the Johnson Fold community but from farther afield across Bolton blew me away. I am truly humbled by the turnout for the weekend.’’
