The Magic of Mehndi @TheOctagon

Wednesday 4th October was Diversity Day and the Women in Neighbourhoods (WiN) and Community Film, Arts and Media (CFAM) groups teamed up with the Octagon Theatre for the Magic of Mehndi. A form of body art form ancient India, Mehndi involves the use of henna to make elaborate decorative designs on the limbs and body.

The aim of Magic of Mehndi, which is Lottery-funded, is to help in developing women’s skills and enterprises. The workshop, attended by women from local community group, also involved work with mosaics, jewellery and various embellishments. 

Deborah Dickinson, Associate Producer at the Octagon Theatre, said:

We offer community groups the opportunity to work here and would encourage people of all cultural backgrounds to do so. Yesterday we hosted an Africa Day event and, in Bolton, ‘Black History Month’ was launched at the Octagon.”
