Marks and Spencer is to become the first UK retailer to add Vitamin D to all of its packaged bread products. We manufacture most of our own Vitamin D via the action of sunlight on our skin, though other natural sources include oily fish and eggs and it is added to some cereals, yoghurts and drinks. Medical experts have recently expressed concern about an increase in rickets in in children in the UK, due to a deficiency of this essential vitamin, which can also protect against cancer, Alzheimers and osteoporosis. The move has been welcomed by the National Osteoporosis Society.
