Victoria Square Bolton was the setting for an appeal on behalf of the many thousands affected by the devastating earthquake in Nepal. Organised by the Bolton Interfaith Council, the event was also supported by volunteers from the British Red Cross and by 96.5 Bolton FM, which was broadcasting from Victoria Square during the day. A marquee was set up in the square from which food and snacks from the Indian subcontinent were available and Red Cross volunteers sold cakes, scones and soft drinks. Also on offer were hand massages and face painting – the latter especially enjoyed by the many children present on the day. One highlight especially enjoyed by everyone was the Shree Swaminarayan Gadi Pipe Band, whose members entertained those thronging Victoria Square with their music. Britain always responds generously and quickly to tragic events elsewhere and all of of us have been touched and saddened by this terrible event in one of the world’s poorest and most remote nations. The event was well attended and warmly and generously supported by the people of Bolton.
