Suzy Orr, from Euxton, Lancashire, worked for nearly 30 years in themale-dominated IT and Telecoms industry. After leaving, she missed ‘networking’ and when a friend suggested she start her own network for women she founded the ‘Unique Ladies Network’.
Recognising that some are deterred by high fees, she made it a ‘pay as you go network’ and worked to ensure that meetings would be very inclusive and include a mix of women from different backgrounds in a welcoming atmosphere. She finds that it particularly appeals to women who work at home and enjoy the cameraderie.
The network was started two years ago and was launched at Lancashire Manor, Skelmersdale. Shortly afterward Suzy was approached by Bolton Council and asked if she would start network meetings here.There are now three monthly meetings each running rom 9.00am to 11.30 am: at the Whites Hotel, Macron Stadium, Bolton; The Invincibles Pavilion, Deepdale, Preston and the Copthorne Hotel, Salford Quays. She believes the relatively low costs help set her networking group apart, along with continuity of using the same easily-accessed venues, with plentiful car-parking spaces, carefully selected table plans and inspirational guest speakers.
Suzy is the WiNNER in the Liverpool Lifestyle Awards for her networking business, is considering adding Liverpool to the monthly meetings schedule. She is passionate about her business and helping support, empower and motivate women in business.
Suzy is also one of the Speakers at WiN Inspirational Women Awards to be held on 12 May in association with University of Bolton.
