On Sunday 19th October the Portland Thistle Hotel in Manchester hosted the World Bridal Event. Designed for all Brides and Bridegrooms of all races and cultures, it is the only such multicultural event in the North, providing inspiration for those planning their wedding and highlighting the wide range of services available to ensure a truly memorable ‘biggest day’.

The World Bridal Event was founded in 2013 by two business women in the wedding industry, Charlotte McCartney of CJ Wedding Flowers and Iram Sayeed of Yaadain Video and Photography; after recognizing a need for this type of an event as a place for inspiration for all happy couples, regardless of their background.

Toastmaster Derek Timmins-Jones is a member of the Northern Guild of Toastmasters, a specialist Wedding and Asian Wedding Toastmaster and has been voted Toastmaster of the year for 2014. Looking resplendent and professional in his outfit, Derek was keen to emphasise the day as a Fusion Event, appealing to people of all cultures, with variety being the key word for an occasion designed to unite our multicultural society.

Karim Mbaye drummed up a rousing reception for guests with his exhibition of African Drumming, the award-winning Ri Ris Dance Academy entertained everyone with their dancing skills and the Amicus String Quartet provided a soothing musical background for the many visitors and exhibitors at the event. Among those exhibiting or advertising their services were Moving People, who provide wedding transport; Pretty Pink Couture with their bespoke bridesmaid and flower girl outfits and accoutrements and Poshaak, Something Blue bridal boutique and Bibi Bouquet, all displaying breathtakingly beautiful wares.

Brennan and Brennan’s ‘Beeutiful Brides’ had a display of surprisingly inexpensive bridal jewellery, gold-plated gift items and bespoke wedding rings.

Halaal Cakes had a stunning display of contemporary and traditional wedding cakes and Alam Zeb, catering manager at MyLahore, brought along a delicious range of food for special occasions.

Salma Kashif, Atika Ahmed and Nadia Hussain demonstrated their skills as make-up artists and Minoti Parakh hosted the centrepiece catwalk show – with models, female and male, showing off some the many fabulous outfits and accessories to be found at this remarkable event. Not to be outdone by the adults, a delightful group of youngsters entertained by modelling children’s outfits – and made the most of the limelight with a display of very exuberant dancing.
